Who is it for?

This qualification has no entry requirements, and it will prepare you for junior and entry level accounting roles. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping to basic costing principles and using accounting software.

Most students will start with this qualification.

With 6 hours per week of study, it may be possible to complete this qualification in as little as three months.

The Foundation Certificate in Accounting can lead to employment as:

  • Accounts administrator

What do I get?

You receive pre-recorded tuition and revision recordings, tutor support until midnight 7 days a week (available until you qualify), study texts, student notes and exam kits

There are 5 individual units as follows

Bookkeeping Transactions

  • Understand financial transactions within a bookkeeping system
  • Process customer transactions

  • Process transactions through the ledgers to the trial balance

Bookkeeping Controls

  • Understand payment methods
  • Understand controls in a bookkeeping system

Elements of Costing

  • Understand the cost recording system within an organisation
  • Use cost recording techniques
  • Provide information on actual and budgeted costs and income

Using Accounting Software

  • Set up accounting software
  • Process sales and purchases transactions
  • Process bank and cash transactions
  • Perform period end routine tasks
  • Produce reports

Work Effectively in Finance

  • Understand the finance function within an organisation
  • Use personal skills development in finance
  • Produce work effectively
  • Understand corporate social responsibility (CSR), ethics and sustainability within organisations

How will I be assessed?

There are 5 assessments in total,

4 are individual unit assessments which test a specific unit

  • Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Bookkeeping Controls
  • Elements of Costing
  • Using Accounting Software

One is a synoptic assessment which is sat after the unit assessments, and covers a mixture of the following units

  • Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Bookkeeping Controls
  • Elements of Costing
  • Work Effectively in Finance

Unit assessments are available on demand, whereas Synoptic assessments are only available at particular times of the year

You can achieve the following grades

  • Distinction: 90-100%
  • Merit: 80-89%
  • Pass: 70-79%

What is the full cost?

£550 Our fees;

£375 for 5 assessments at between £70 and £80 each (say, £75)

Please note:

  • Our fees can be paid for by 5 monthly instalments of £110
  • Our prices include UK postage
  • that assessment fees vary from centre to centre, and the fee is paid direct to the AAT approved assessment venue that you choose. 
  • it is a requirement that you register with the AAT within 4 weeks of enrolling on the course
  • AAT student admission/membership is £125 for International students
  • the AAT may not accept you as a member if you have been declared bankrupt, or have a criminal record.
